2010 Sep 25
In Yemen 2 al-Qaida militants ambushed a bus carrying security personnel in the capital, San’a, spraying the vehicle with gunfire and injuring 10 passengers. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) later claimed that 14 intelligence officers were killed in the attack.

2010 Oct 9
In Yemen self-confessed militant Saleh al-Shaoush admitted to carrying out deadly attacks on military targets and oil facilities, as four other suspected Al-Qaeda members went on trial for planning attacks. Al-Shaoush was arrested on January 30 as he prepared to carry out a suicide bombing in the southeastern port of Mukalla. The US-based SITE monitoring service reported that Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed it had assassinated a colonel named Abdul al-Karim al-Baan in the southern Lahij province. AQAP also said it had shot an intelligence officer named Al-Hashidi in the province.

An American drone strike in southern Yemen killed 9 al-Qaida-linked militants, including Egyptian-born Ibrahim al-Banna, the media chief for the group's Yemeni branch, and Abdul-Rahman al-Awlaki (21), the son of a prominent US-born cleric slain in a similar attack last month. On Oct 31 Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula denied the death of its media chief.

In Yemen suspected al Qaeda militants killed at least 54 soldiers and policemen in two attacks in the south of the country. Officials believed members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) were behind both attacks.

Yemeni medical officials said 200 more bodies have been retrieved from the streets of Sanaa, bringing to 340 the death toll from a week of fierce clashes between Hawthi Shiite rebels on one side and Sunni militiamen and army troops on the other. Hawthi rebels seized tanks and armored vehicles from military headquarters in Sanaa. Shiite rebels from the north clashed with AQAP militants south of Sanaa. 4 militants from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula were killed along with 4 Huthis.

In Yemen suicide bombers targeting the powerful Shi'ite Houthi group and an army camp killed at least 67 people in two separate attacks, hours after a political crisis forced new PM Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak to step down. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) soon claimed responsibility.

2014 Dec 16
In Yemen two car bombs exploded in Radaa city in the central province of al-Bayda. Radaa is a bastion of the Yemen-based al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). The bombs exploded hitting a school bus traveling near a Shiite rebel gathering, killing 26, including at least 16 primary school students.

2015 Jan 31
In Yemen Harith al-Nadhari and 3 other militants were killed in an American drone strike against their car in the southern Shabwa province. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) later named the others as Said Bafaraj, Abdelsamie al-Haddaa and Azzam al-Hadrami.

A member of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) confirmed the death of Nasir al-Wahishi (aka al-Wuhayshi) in a US air strike in Yemen last week. Wuhayshi (38) had led al-Qaida operations in Yemen since 2002. Military chief Qassem al-Rimi (41) was reported as the new AQAP new leader.

In southeastern Yemen a drone attacked an army base held by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), killing 4 suspected militants. Saudi-led air strikes and clashes in Aden killed 13 Shiite Huthi rebels and 8 pro-government fighters.

2016 Apr 23
Yemeni forces backed by air power from the Saudi-led Arab coalition launched an operation to drive Al-Qaeda fighters out of Zinjibar. Dozens of fighters loyal to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) were killed in the clashes. A drone strike killed 2 others further north.

2017 May 23
In Yemen seven militants were killed during an intelligence-gathering raid by US Special Forces troops against an al Qaeda compound in the central Marib governorate. Sources in Marib said that five members of their al-Moradi clan, a main tribe in Marib, had died in the operation and six others were wounded, adding that they were all civilians.
