Russell Taylor, executive director of the Jared Foundation, was arrested at his home in Wayne Township, Indiana, after investigators found child pornography. The Jared Foundation to prevent childhood obesity was started in 2004 by Jared Fogle, spokesperson for sandwich chain Subway.

2015 Aug 19
In Indiana Jared Fogle (37), the longtime pitchman for the Subway sandwich chain, pleaded guilty to allegations that he paid for sex acts with minors and received child pornography. On Nov 19 Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in prison.

2015 Nov 16
Indiana Gov. Michael Pence suspended the resettlement of Syrian refugees three days after the terror attacks in Paris. As many as 30 other Republican governors and one Democrat soon made similar moves. On Feb 29, 2016, a federal judge ruled the Gov. Pence’s order to cut federal funds for the resettlement of Syrian refugees in his state was unconstitutional. On March 8 Indiana filed an appeal.

A storm system packed high winds and triggered more than 20 tornadoes in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. At least 15 people were killed including at least 8 people in Mississippi, 6 in Tennessee and one in Arkansas.

US federal officials said an H7N8 strain of bird flu has been found at a southern Indiana turkey farm. The entire flock of some 60,000 turkeys was euthanized. Authorities the next day said nine more turkey farms had tested positive.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a bill that added broad limits to women’s access to abortions. The bill prohibited abortions on the grounds of Down’s syndrome or any other disability. On April 7 the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky sued Indiana over the law.

Police in Cincinnati, Ohio, asked for the public’s help in identifying the source of heroin behind an estiamted 78 overdoses in two days. At least 6 deaths were reported in recent days in heroin overdoses in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia.
