In Visegrad, Hungary, a declaration of co-operation was signed by Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The 4 became known as the Visegrad countries.

The central European Visegrad Group (Czech Rep., Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) rejected a European Union policy that calls for all member states to receive migrants, protesting suggestions that the level of their compliance could be linked to the availability of EU funds to them.

French President Emmanuel Macron and four eastern European Union leaders (Visegrad-4) sought to turn the page after publicly trading barbs over their differences on issues ranging from jobs to the bloc’s fundamental values. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic say they should be allowed to compete on lower prices - just as more developed western EU nations compete on quality products and know-how - to catch up after decades of communist stagnation.

2018 Jun 21
Hungarian PM Viktor Orban said leaders of the Visegrad Four countries Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic will skip a European Union mini-summit on the migration crisis this weekend. He said such meetings of state leaders should be organized by the European Council, the bloc's top decision-making body, not the European Commission. Orban said the Visegrad Four group of countries and Austria have agreed to beef up the European Union's external border defense and process migrants outside the EU's borders.

In Poland the foreign ministers of Europe's four Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland) discussed cooperation to boost national economies and tourism after the pandemic and announced free travel between the Czech Republic and Hungary for those vaccinated against COVID-19.

Visegrad members (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) gathered in Slovenia and voiced concern over a potential migration rush from Afghanistan as US and NATO forces pull out from that country. They also complained that a small group of powerful countries within the EU continue to call the shots without input from smaller or less wealthy member states.
